UC Berkeley PLI Presents:
Equity Centered Master Scheduling Workshops

Designed for District and Site Administrators, Master Schedule Builders, and Master Schedule Teams

The master schedule is among the most powerful tools you have to implement transformation in your school to move your school toward equity of access and achievement for all students. Join us in a workshop series where we examine building a master schedule from a lens of equity and social justice. The master schedule is a student support system, a support system for all members of the school staff, and a support system for programming in the school. In addition, the master schedule tells the story of the culture of the school. It is a reflection of school policies, practices, and the lenses brought to bear upon decision-making.

Session 1: The Master Schedule Equity Audit

Thursday, December 14, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Tolman Hall Room 2515, UC Berkeley

In Session 1, we explore the relationship of the master schedule to equity centered practices and school transformation. We investigate a model where the master schedule exists simultaneously as an integral component of a school system and as a manifestation of the policies and practices within the school. Our inquiry will help frame equitable practices in the system from which the master schedule rises and we will explore using equity audits as a tool for examination of systemic practices. This session will focus on moving theory into practice; participants will generate possibilities for improved scheduling practices that result in equitable outcomes for all students and staff.

Session 2: Five Stages of Master Schedule Development

Thursday, March 15, 6:00 – 9:00 pm
Tolman Hall Room 2515, UC Berkeley

Session 2 will include an overview of the five stages of master schedule construction and an understanding of the relationship between the master schedule and an equity-centered school culture. This session will continue the practices explored in Session 1 and explore the master schedule as the instrument the brings equity centered practices into being.
