Eligibility
Criteria

In selecting students for enrollment into a Career Academy, the following criteria will be used: 
 

  •  
  • Irregular attendance - 15 % or more bad absences
  •  
  • Past record of underachievement: 
        -  Evidence of high ability in math and reading scores and underachievement in those areas (GPA under 2.0)
        -  Low ability (one or more grade levels behind in math and reading, as tested on.  For example STEP and Nelson)
        -  Enrollment in at-risk programs during the freshman year
        -  Less than 90% of credits earned per year for graduation (90% for the year is 50 credits and for the semester 25)
  •  
  • Past record of low motivation or disinterest in the regular school program: 
        -  Teacher and counselor identification
        -  Principal or Vice Principal identification
        -  School nurse or psychologist identification
        -  Community support agenciesí identification
        -  Parent recommendation
        -  Academy staff evaluation based on recruitment interview with prospective student 
  •  
  • Disadvantaged Economically 
        -  AFDC
        -  Qualification for free lunch program
        -  Food stamp qualification
        -  Qualification for participation in any Private Industry Council (PIC) program
        -  Self-supporting student
        -  Contribution to student toward family income
