About CTE Sequences
Our CTE Sequences offer ideas that educators may use to develop their own CTE course sequences and programs of study. Each sequence is only one of many possible options for a coordinated program that can help students successfully move into college and careers.
Many academy and CTE programs do not include grade 9. Courses in grade 9 and 10 should provide an overview of the industry sector and career options while laying foundations for the development of skills. Grade 11 should build on the previous coursework in both the CTE and academic disciplines while building knowledge and sharpening skills in the student‚s career focus. Grade 12 should provide opportunities for an internship, advanced training including certification and, when appropriate, college credit. Grade 12 should also include a capstone project that enables students to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired while preparing for postsecondary options, including both college and high-wage high-demand careers.
Educators must rely on information drawn from several sources, including experts in the field; for example, employment projections for high-wage/high-demand jobs and recommendations of those working in the field.
